As first reported by ISP Review, Openreach have announced 51 locations where they intend to move away from copper-based analogue phones. Meaning customers will need to move to an internet based phone solution, such as VoIP or risk being unable to make or receive calls.
This announcements comes as Openreach announced that they plan to completely switch off their analogue network by December 2025. After this time customers will be unable to use their analogue phones to make or receive calls or use their line for alarm services or for payment terminals to name a few.
Customers on FTTC broadband or ADSL would also need to upgrade their broadband to a new broadband only solution such as SOGEA Broadband (a broadband only solution). You can read more info in our PSTN withdrawal article.
Openreach plan to move customers over to FTTP broadband (Fibre To The Premises) and will announce plans to “stop-sell” of copper services to customers.
