Office 365 plans are set to be re-branded by Microsoft in a move they describe as “natural evolution“. This move comes hours after Microsoft launched Microsoft Work and Microsoft Family plans. As a Microsoft partner and provider of Office 365, we thought we ought to let everyone know about the upcoming changes.
What’s the big change?
Microsoft will be renaming some of its Office 365 plans to Microsoft 365. The Microsoft 365 name was first used in 2017 as a licensing bundle which included Windows and the office programs. As from the 21st April the following re-naming will happen.
- Office 365 Business Essentials will be renamed to Microsoft 365 Business Basic.
- Office 365 Business will be renamed to Microsoft 365 apps.
- Office 365 Business Premium will be renamed to Microsoft Business Standard.
- Microsoft Business will be renamed to Microsoft Business Premium.

While there are going to be no changes to the current plans, Microsoft has not ruled out adjusting their plans in the future as they stated “these changes represent our ambition to continue to drive innovation in Microsoft 365″.
How will this affect me?
Other than the re-wording in the admin portal and on your invoices you probably wouldn’t notice, however it seems likely that new apps and services will be released soon as Microsoft stated “these changes represent our ambition to continue to drive innovation in Microsoft 365“. This change will happen automatically and so you do not need to do anything.
